One of the valley’s most magnificent “comuni” is without a doubt Suvereto. Drawn by its unique history and artistic culture visitors find themselves immersed in the magical atmosphere of a medieval hamlet surrounded by beautiful countryside.

Campiglia Marittima


Campiglia Marittima features the typical medieval architecture characterising the ancient hamlets on the Costa degli Etruschi.
It is built on the twin peaks of Rocca and Poggiame with roads, lanes, narrow alleys and houses laid out in a series of semi-circles along the hill slopes.
A town suspended between thousand years of history and its busy present, with winding, paved streets leading to tiny churches, old workshops and museums.
The extremely mild climate favours the surrounding olive groves, vineyards and Mediterranean “macchia” producing fine wines and oil.

The routex of wines

Before arriving to Castagneto Carducci , near “ Zi’ Martino” Restaurant, turning on your left, you can drive the actractive “Route of wine”, called Bolgherese, that brings back to Cypress Boulevard in Bolgheri.

A very important territory that produces the BOLGHERI DOC WINE and other wines like SASSICAIA and ORNELLAIA recognized among the most famous wines in the world. The landscape is involving. One hand forests and hills,, other side the sea and farms with perfect vineyards, wine cellars like “Gualdo al Tasso”, “Ornellaia”, “Michele Satta”,”Gualdo al Melo” and a spectacular Villas surrounded by a rigoglious vegetation .Also the “ Extravergine Oil” produced in the local Farms has got a great importance for the economy of the village.

Castagneto Carducci


A few kilometers from the sea, on the top of the hill over the valley, is situated the Medieval Village of CASTAGNETO CARDUCCI (1000 a.C). Perfectly preserved, the village is a maze of paved lanes with small artcraft shops and typical, characteristic restaurants. During the year some events : the ”International Festival of Music” or “Food Festival”as “Castagneto a Tavola”. Interesting is the visit of Carducci House where the Poet spent the years of his youth, before in Bolgheri, then in Castagneto or the dedicated Museum in “Palazzo Pretorio “(City Palace). There are some Churches , like San Lorenzo, SS. Crocifisso and the “Scala Santa” (Holy Stairway) in Salita San Lorenzo , an ancient and steep staircase with 83 steps . It is very panoramic and perfect to immortalize a wonderful landscape.

Bolgheri


Bolgheri is a Medieval village situated at the top of a verdant hill full of important Vineyards (Ornellaia and Sassicaia are the most famous in the world) and olive groves, at the end of the well-known “Viale dei Cipressi” (Cypress Boulevard) , a 5 kilometers long road starting from the Church of San Guido (18th century).The Avenue shaded on both sides by a double row of Cypress trees, more than 2000, was immortalized by the Poet Giosuè Carducci who lived a long time in these places and he composed the famous “ode” “ Davanti a San Guido” (In front of San Guido).
The village is a jewel perfectly preserved : you can admire the wonderful Walls, the massive Tower , the small Church of SS. Giacomo and Cristoforo and the 18th century palace of Gherardesca Family. Going in the village you can see a shaded, rustic square with benches and the nice Statue of “Nonna Lucia” whose Carducci was very fond. Here some doggerels to remember her: “Then on the thill-top from the cemetery, coming down the green path, again I seemed to see a figure neath the cipresses, very tall and very stately, dressed in black, my grandma Lucia”.
Now in the Bolgheri center are some shops , Wine-bars, Ice -cream store and many restaurants, where it is possible to taste typical products and wines of excellent quality. The most famous are: Osteria La Magona, La Taverna del Pittore e l’Uva Nera.
